Type what the screen says to find it. Every machine shows its state in the box at the top right of its screen; the Ecotone and Spawning Basin say exactly what they're waiting for.

Every machine and engine#

The box at the top right of a machine's screen.

It says	What it means	What to do
Running	Working normally.
Idle	Nothing to do: no input or fuel, nothing it can make from what's there, or its outputs are full.	Check the inputs match a recipe (JEI or the Recipes page), and empty or pipe away the outputs.
Charging	It ran short of power and is waiting for its buffer to fill a little before running again, so it works in steady bursts instead of flickering.	Give it more power, or draw less: fewer Celerity modules or lanes. Economizer modules make each operation cheaper.
Disabled	Its redstone setting is keeping it off.	Change Redstone on the Configuration tab, or the signal reaching it.
Needs a cauldron	The Distiller has no cauldron on top to collect its ethanol.	Place a cauldron on top of it.
Needs a cauldron	The Reaction Vat has no cauldron on top.	Place a cauldron on top of it.

Ecotone#

The Ecotone's screen header.

It says	What it means	What to do
Running	Breeding and growing.
Build the tank	The 2×2×2 structure isn't complete.	Put three Machine Chassis beside the controller and four glass blocks underneath. The controller previews the missing blocks.
Needs a pair in a row	No row has two fish of the same species.	Put a matching pair in a row's two fish slots.
Needs a crop	There's no crop planted.	Put a crop in a crop slot. With a Kelp Module the beds take water crops instead of land ones.
Needs water	The tank is out of water.	Pipe water in through a port, from an Aquifer for example.
Needs power	Not enough FE to run.	Power it through a port.
Dark: needs Lumen	It's night (or there's no day here), and it can't run in the dark.	Fit a Lumen Module; it then runs at night at double the FE.
Fish outputs full	A row's fish output is full, so that row has paused.	Empty it, or pipe it out through an output port.
Crop outputs full	A row's crop outputs are full, so that row has paused.	Empty them, pipe them out, or fit a Void Module for the overflow.
Outputs full	Outputs are full across the rows.	Pipe the outputs away. Resource yields and Prized fish that don't fit are lost, not paused.

Spawning Basin#

It says	What it means	What to do
Running	Breeding.
Needs glass on top	There's no glass on top for the fish to live in.	Place a glass block on top of the Basin.
Needs a pair	The parent slots don't hold a pair it can breed.	Use two of the same fish, or a mixed pair that a mutation crosses (with its catalyst).
Needs a catalyst	A mixed pair only breeds when a mutation crosses them, and that needs its catalyst.	Put the mutation's catalyst in the catalyst slot. The Species pages list every catalyst.
Needs a … kit	This pair's mutation only happens with a better tier kit fitted.	Fit the named tier kit.
Mutation needs a … kit	A same-species pair is breeding copies, but the mutation you may be after needs a better tier kit.	Fit the named tier kit to let the mutation roll.
No catalyst: N% speed	No catalyst for any of this pair's mutations, so it breeds copies at reduced speed.	Add a catalyst, or leave it if copies are what you want.
Needs fish food	Out of fish food.	Add wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroot or Fish Meal to the food slot.
Needs water	Out of water.	Pipe or bucket water in.
Needs power	Not enough FE.	Power it.
Outputs full	No room for the young it would breed, so it waits.	Empty the outputs or pipe them away.

Tank Hatch#

The Tank Hatch's screen.

It says	What it means	What to do
No tank	The hatch isn't part of a complete box of glass.	Set it into the surface of a box of glass, at most 3×3×3, facing out.

Messages#

Above your hotbar.

It says	What it means	What to do
Not enough charge	The Haddock Howitzer's battery is too low to fire.	Charge it in a Voltaic Cell's charging slot or any other charger.
No fish to fire	No fish to fire.	Hold fish in your off hand, or carry them in a Tackle Satchel.
That upgrade kit is already installed	That tier kit is already fitted.
No room for that module	The machine has no free slot for that module, or already has as many as it can use.	A higher tier kit opens more module slots.
Ports go on the structure's outer sides	That face of the Ecotone can't be a port.	Ports go on the structure's outer faces.
