Every crystal in Enthalpy grows in the Brine Accretor from a single block and some molten salt. There are two families. Elemental crystals socket into a weapon and change what its hits do. Metal crystals are crafting parts: they go into the weapons' muzzle brakes and Rail Scales, one metal at a time, and so are the gate on how far you can gear a weapon.

All the recipes#

Salt is the real cost. Larger crystals drink far more of it than the tank holds, so the machine waits for more to arrive and carries on. Time is at the Accretor's default speed; it takes no kits or modules.

A crystal marked with a mod name only exists when that mod is installed. Metal blocks for the modded crystals are matched by tag, so any mod's block of that metal works.

Elemental crystals#

An elemental crystal sockets into the Kingfish Katana or the Haddock Howitzer. Open the weapon's sockets (Shift + right-click by default), drop the crystal in the Crystal slot and the weapon takes that element. An empty slot is plain water, so a weapon always has an element. The three are water, lightning and flame; Elements covers each in detail.

Hydric Crystal#

Water. Hits slow what they strike and root it in place, and a splash comes again a moment later as an echo. On the katana it is the flurry of pressure thrusts. It is the control element: use it to hold a crowd while you finish it.

Your first one is free: a new Kingfish Katana comes with a Hydric Crystal already socketed. If you lose it, or want one for the howitzer, you can craft another without the Accretor:

The Accretor route needs Blue Ice, which is rare in the world. Frostfin breed it for you in an Ecotone, so a Frostfin farm is the long-term supply.

Galvanic Crystal#

Lightning. Hits arc to nearby enemies. On the howitzer a shot leaves a crackling field on the ground that shocks and draws in hostile mobs, with bolts from the sky. It is the crowd element: the more enemies packed together, the more it earns.

Grown from a block of copper, so it is the cheapest crystal to make in quantity.

Pyric Crystal#

Flame. Sets what it hits alight (4 seconds on the howitzer) and ends in an explosion. It hits hardest across an area, at the cost of catching mobs you would rather leave asleep. Fire-immune mobs shrug it off.

Grown from a magma block, which the Salt Pan is also happy to sit on.

Metal crystals#

A metal crystal does nothing on its own: its tooltip only says where it grew. You craft it into a weapon part, and the part carries the tier. Each part in a line needs the previous one, so you climb the metals in order. Parts that need another mod only appear when it is installed.

Muzzle brakes#

A muzzle brake on the howitzer adds damage to every shot, before the power-up multiplies it, and turns left click into a ranged attack that carries the socketed element. Each brake needs the one before and its metal's ingots and crystal.

Rail Scales#

Rail Scales give the howitzer a rapid secondary fire: hold use and it fires a steady stream of fish. Better scales tighten the spread and speed up the shots. Each scale needs the one before it.

The last three lines need Ender IO's alloys. Packs often change these numbers.

Other uses#

The Iron Crystal is also an ingredient of the Extendable Blade, a katana style that swaps the lunge for a ranged elemental blade. Because metal crystals are plain crafting materials, other recipes in your pack may use them too.

Growing them#

  1. Make salt blocks in a Salt Pan.
  2. Melt them in a Vortex Separator beside the Accretor, with auto-output on.
  3. Put the block in the Accretor. It builds the crystal on top of itself and drops it in the output slot.

The crystals guide walks through it with a salt budget for each crystal.
