What it does#

The Tank Hatch makes an aquarium. Build a box of glass, set the hatch into one side of it, and the glass becomes a framed tank of water with a sandy floor. Put fish in through the hatch and they swim around, every species drawn as itself, Prized ones shimmering. It uses no power or water: it's there to show off what you've bred.

Building it#

Tank HatchCrafting Table
  1. Build a solid box of glass, up to 3 blocks on a side, with one of its outside blocks left out.
  2. Place the hatch in the gap. It faces whoever places it, so stand outside the box.
  3. A moment later the glass turns into the tank. Any glass works: plain, stained, and most modded glass, including connected glass from Chipped.

Break any pane, or the hatch, and the rest turns back into the glass it was. Glass that's already part of an Ecotone or a Spawning Basin doesn't count.

Using it#

Open the hatch to fill it. Its screen has 16 slots for raw fish, a count of how many are in, whether the tank is formed and lit, and a Kelp switch that grows kelp on the tank's floor. Up to 32 fish swim at once, 2 per glass block; with more, they take turns, swapping one in every minute.

  • Use glowstone dust on the hatch or any pane to light the tank; sneak and use it with an empty hand to take it back.
  • Hoppers and pipes can add fish, but not take them out.
  • The Calibration Tablet turns an unformed hatch, and sneak-use picks any hatch up. Removing the hatch, however you do it, drops its fish and glowstone.
