What it does#

The Resistive Kiln smelts. Anything a smelting recipe turns into something else works: ore and raw metal into ingots, sand into glass, clay into bricks, fish into cooked fish, and the dusts the Triturator makes into ingots. It needs no fuel, only FE.

The energy a recipe costs comes from its cooking time. The kiln spends 10 FE for every tick the recipe would cook for. A raw ore or dust that takes 200 ticks costs 2,000 FE, and at the kiln's base 20 FE/t that takes 5 s. Recipes that cook faster or slower cost proportionally less or more, and a pack that adds smelting recipes gets them in the kiln for free.

Using it#

Put something smeltable in the input slot, by hand, by hopper or by turning on auto-input. The arrow fills as the item cooks. The example shows a kiln with a Manifold fitted, so it works on three stacks at once.

  1. 1
The kiln's buffer of FE. Processing stops, keeping its progress, when it runs dry.
  2. 2
Running while any lane is cooking. Idle with nothing to cook or no room for the result; Disabled when redstone has switched it off.
  3. 3
The power the kiln is drawing right now, across every lane that is working.
  4. 4
The input slot of the first lane. It only accepts things the kiln can smelt.
  5. 5
The output slot of the first lane. Each lane has its own, and a full one pauses that lane.
  6. 6
The progress arrow of a lane. It fills from the bottom as the item cooks.
  7. 7
With two or more lanes open, Balance lanes spreads the input stacks evenly so no lane runs dry while another is full. The same tab holds the Sounds switch.
  8. 8
Which faces take items and which give them out. Click a face to change it; right-click to go back.

What it smelts#

Everything with a smelting recipe, which is too many to list. A few that Enthalpy adds:

Iron IngotFurnace or Resistive Kiln
10 s
Cooked CandlefishFurnace or Resistive Kiln
10 s

To see what a given item smelts into, look the item up in the recipe browser, or in JEI if you have it. Cooked fish from the kiln needs no fuel, which suits a fish farm's output.

Automation#

Out of the box every face takes items and gives items:

Every face Input & Output (takes items and gives items). Auto-input off, Auto-output off.

A hopper into the top and a pipe out of the bottom is enough. Items are shared across the open lanes, emptiest first. Turn on Auto-input or Auto-output to pull from and push to neighbouring chests. Side configuration explains faces, modes and redstone control for every machine.

Upgrades#

A tier kit makes the machine faster, enlarges its buffer and opens module slots. Power use below is per lane while it works.

  • Celerity Module · up to 8
  • Economizer Module · up to 8
  • Manifold Module · up to 2

Three modules matter to a processing machine:

  • Celerity speeds the work up by 50% each, but every operation costs 50% more energy.
  • Economizer divides the energy each operation costs and grows the buffer by the same factor, one step per module of 50%. It does not change the speed.
  • Manifold opens two more lanes each, so the machine works on several items at once. Every extra lane draws its own power.

Four Celerity modules give 3× the speed, at 3× the energy per operation, so the machine draws 9× the power while it works. Four Economizers cut each operation to 33% of its energy at the same speed. With the defaults, equal numbers of Celerity and Economizer modules cancel on cost: you get the speed and pay the original energy per operation.

Good to know#

  • The kiln crackles while it works. Turn that off with Sounds on the Configuration tab.
  • If an output slot is full of something else, that lane waits, keeping its progress, until you empty it.

The kiln reads the game's own smelting recipes, so datapacks that add or change them change what it smelts.
