What it does#
The Eddy Smelter takes two ingredients and melts them into one product. Its everyday job is to turn a raw metal and a sand into two ingots, which doubles what you get from the same ore. Its other job is alloying: two metals in the right ratio come out as one alloy, and the pack decides which alloys exist.
A worked example: one raw iron and one sand become two iron ingots. Two raw iron ore would give two ingots in the Resistive Kiln for the same raw iron and no sand, so the sand is what buys the second ingot.

Using it#
Each lane has two input slots, one above the other, and the ingredients may go in either slot. The arrow below them fills as the pair smelts. The example shows a smelter with a Manifold fitted, so it works on three pairs at once.

- 2Running while any lane is smelting. Idle with no matching pair or no room for the result; Disabled when redstone has switched it off.
- 3The power the machine is drawing right now, across every lane that is working.
- 4The upper input of the first lane.
- 5The lower input of the first lane. A pair only smelts when both are filled and match a recipe.
- 6The output of the first lane. Each lane has its own.
- 7The progress arrow of a lane. It fills from the bottom.
- 8Balance lanes spreads the input stacks evenly across open lanes. Alloying mode fixes which ingredient goes in which slot; see below.
- 9Which faces take items and which give them out. Click a face to change it; right-click to go back.
Alloying mode#
By default the smelter is relaxed about order: put the sand in the top slot and the raw metal below, or the other way round. That is friendly to hands and awkward for pipes, because a pipe carrying two metals can fill the wrong slot and block the pair.
Switch on Alloying mode on the Configuration tab and each recipe's first ingredient may only go in the upper slot, its second only in the lower. Recipe cards below show the first ingredient first. Turn it on whenever automation feeds two different metals, so each input ends up in its own slot. The mode is saved with the machine.
Recipes#
Raw metal and sand work for every metal the pack provides. Alloys and the other pairings are listed with the amounts each takes. Recipes that need metals from other mods only load when the pack has them.

Automation#
Out of the box every face takes items and gives items:
Every face Input & Output (takes items and gives items). Auto-input off, Auto-output off.
With Alloying mode off, one pipe carrying both ingredients works. With it on, feed the two ingredients so each reaches its own slot. Turn on Auto-input or Auto-output to work with neighbouring chests. Side configuration explains faces, modes and redstone control for every machine.
Upgrades#
A tier kit makes the machine faster, enlarges its buffer and opens module slots. Power use below is per lane while it works.
| Tier | Kit | Power use | Buffer | Module slots |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Base | None | 20 FE/t | 20,000 FE | 0 |
| Tempered | 40 FE/t | 40,000 FE | 2 | |
| Fortified | 60 FE/t | 80,000 FE | 4 | |
| Luminous | 80 FE/t | 160,000 FE | 6 | |
| Harmonic | 120 FE/t | 320,000 FE | 8 |
Celerity Module · up to 8
Economizer Module · up to 8
Manifold Module · up to 2
Three modules matter to a processing machine:
- Celerity speeds the work up by 50% each, but every operation costs 50% more energy.
- Economizer divides the energy each operation costs and grows the buffer by the same factor, one step per module of 50%. It does not change the speed.
- Manifold opens two more lanes each, so the machine works on several items at once. Every extra lane draws its own power.
Four Celerity modules give 3× the speed, at 3× the energy per operation, so the machine draws 9× the power while it works. Four Economizers cut each operation to 33% of its energy at the same speed. With the defaults, equal numbers of Celerity and Economizer modules cancel on cost: you get the speed and pay the original energy per operation.
Good to know#
- It crackles while it works. Turn that off with Sounds on the Configuration tab.
- If an output slot is full, that lane waits, keeping its progress. A full byproduct slot stops every lane too.
- Netherite is made here: scrap and gold ingots in the amounts on its card, with no other mod needed.
For pack makers: the settings behind these numbers
| Setting | Default | Range | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
machines.energyPerTick | 20 | 1 to no limit | FE per tick a processing machine spends while working, before upgrades |
machines.energyCapacity | 20,000 | 1 to no limit | Energy buffer of processing machines before upgrades, in FE |
machines.maxEnergyInput | 1,000 | 1 to no limit | Maximum FE per tick a processing machine accepts before upgrades |
upgrades.rateMultipliers | 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 6 | Energy rate (and therefore speed) multiplier per tier: base, tempered, fortified, luminous, harmonic | |
upgrades.capacityMultipliers | 1 / 2 / 4 / 8 / 16 | Energy buffer and transfer multiplier per tier: base, tempered, fortified, luminous, harmonic | |
upgrades.celeritySpeedBonus | 0.5 | 0 to 100 | Extra speed per Celerity module (0.5 = +50%) |
upgrades.celerityCostIncrease | 0.5 | 0 to 100 | Extra energy per operation per Celerity module (0.5 = +50%) |
upgrades.economizerEfficiency | 0.5 | 0 to 100 | Each Economizer module divides energy per operation by (1 + this), and grows the energy buffer by the same factor. With the defaults, equal numbers of Celerity and Economizer modules cancel out exactly. |
Recipes are datapack files of the enthalpy:eddy_smelter type: a first and a second ingredient with amounts, a result and an energy cost. Each ingredient can list several alternatives, such as an ingot or a dust.
